What I do:

  • I write. I create custom poetry and write poetry and prose on compassion, human relations, and women’s experiences.
  • I clarify. Clients hire me to clean up content messes. I work with businesses and nonprofits to help them clarify their brand and make meaning from their digital landscape.
  • I lead. I facilitate artist and writing workshops.
  • I build. I create email marketing campaigns, customer journeys, and WordPress websites for small businesses and nonprofits.

I am a researcher and writer.

I am a work-for-hire email and content strategist for small- and mid-sized clients.

As a journalist, I have written for Kansas City Star, Kansas City Business Journal, Hersam Acorn publications, among others. I studied journalism at Iowa State University and rhetoric and composition at UMKC.

Since the ’90s, my writing has been published in magazines, journals, newspapers, blogs, websites, and more. Read my work here.

I am a poet.

Elizabeth Howard Demand Poetry

I’ve been writing poetry since I was old enough to write. When I was eight, my poetry rhymed. Now I write primarily in free verse. I studied poetry under Michelle Boisseau at UMKC.

I am the human being behind live and online Demand Poetry events.  I have been published in Boston Review, had a series published called “In the Details,” and led a writing group on the international writing community “Writing Our Way Home.”

I am a member of the American Society of Poets and the Writing Workshop of Kansas City.

I own and use an Olivetti Lettera 32, the same machine used by Martin Scorsese to type his screenplays.

I am a person (pronouns she/her).

Elizabeth G Howard writer

I am passionate about promoting the arts, especially public arts projects to improve the quality of life for artists and regular humans in towns everywhere. I also dedicate time to social justice programs, especially programs that support reducing food insecurity, and improving life for foster and adoptive children.

I am married to Colin Phillips, a software maniac. We have four teenagers. Penny the dog roo-rooooos at everyone she meets. We love to travel and camp, and I am the designated selfie-taker in my family (as you can see).

Before moving (back) to the Kansas City area, I lived and worked in Connecticut, London, Kansas City, Walt Disney World, and my home state, Iowa.

I love music (especially live KC jazz, Pink Martini, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Shawn Colvin). I back the Packers, the Chiefs, and my alma mater, the Cyclones.
